Theory Test You will be asked to answer 50 multiple choice questions. To pass you must answer 43 questions correctly followed by a test of your hazard perception skills. You will need to pass both parts of the theory test at the same sitting to obtain your theory test pass certificate. Once you have passed you can then apply to take your practical driving test. The theory test currently costs £31 and the local test centre is in Chatham.

How long will it take to pass my test?
According to the DSA (Driving Standards Agency), those who pass their driving test have had, on average, 45 hours of professional training combined with 22 hours of private practice. Learners who combine professional instruction with private practice are also more successful on test. The driving test currently costs £62. Remember the DSA figures are just a guide and not a guarantee of how many lessons you'll need before you can rip up those L-plates!

What to look for when finding a Driving Instructor
Although the price is important be aware of anything that seems too cheap as there is normally a good reason for this! Always ask how long they have been qualified, what grade are they (grade 6 being excellent, grade 4 is good)? There should be a green badge displayed in the windscreen of a fully qualified instructor, if the badge is pink you are with a trainee instructor which means they are not fully qualified. If there is no badge you could be with an unqualified and unlicensed instructor!
